Make a complaint about an APRA-regulated entity

With the exception of private health insurance, the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) is the main dispute resolution body for the Australian financial system.

AFCA is a non-government organisation providing free, fair and independent help to consumers and small businesses to resolve their financial disputes. 

Where an agreement cannot be reached between parties, AFCA can make decisions that are binding on financial firms, including awarding compensation for losses due to a financial firm’s error or inappropriate conduct.

If your complaint is about a private health insurer, the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman is an Australian Government agency that acts independently of the Government to deal with complaints and reporting. 

You can contact the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman on 1300 362 072 (10:00am - 4:00pm AEST/AEDT) or make a complaint using their online form.

Complaining to APRA 
 

APRA supervises institutions across the banking, insurance and superannuation industries to promote the careful or prudent management of these financial institutions.

As the prudential regulator, APRA is concerned with maintaining the safety and soundness of the institutions it regulates to ensure that they can fulfil the financial promises they make to depositors, policyholders and superannuation beneficiaries.

APRA deals with systemic matters at an institution level rather than pursuing individual complaints about products and services.
